Artist Statement

My current work examines the physical manifestations of different relationships. I am particularly interested in day-to-day interactions that occur between individuals. These small interactions are important indicators of the nature of a relationship and often go unregistered.

My process includes photography, drawing, and printmaking, of which printmaking is the most important and involved part. The tactile nature of printmaking emulates the concepts I am currently exploring in my work. Through creating I build a relationship with my block, stone, or plate. The time spent with the surface of these raw materials holds a kind of intimacy that parallels the imagery that I am creating.

Darcy Palys received her BFA in printmaking from California State University Chico in 2017. She currently lives in Chico, CA.
